Maintenance release

Better editing, browsing, and previews.

Qubicl 0.2.1 improves everyday file and browser work while retaining the same durable computers and client connections. This is a historical release; 0.5 is current.

What shipped

More reliable daily work.

01 / FILES

Complete file editing

Open WebUI receives complete UTF-8 files up to 20 MB, preserving byte-order marks and line endings. Unsupported or oversized files fail instead of presenting a prefix that could overwrite the original on save.

02 / BROWSER

Stable browser targets

Snapshot references stay attached to their original DOM nodes when nearby controls move. Replaced or removed targets require a fresh snapshot. Semantic actions no longer add an unconditional delay after completion.

03 / OPEN WEBUI

Folders that follow the chat

Open WebUI command and editing tools use its native folder guidance and refresh events. Relative file paths and omitted working directories follow the folder selected in the chat.

04 / SEARCH

Bounded, useful search

Search prunes hidden and Git-ignored directories before descending, returns partial results at limits, and supports bounded continuation pages. Incomplete results are identified as truncated.

05 / PREVIEWS

Office previews

The workstation preset renders DOCX and PPTX as PDF using temporary profiles and disabled macros. Conversion is bounded and cancelled on disconnect or takeover. Original downloads are unchanged.

06 / CORRECTIONS

Small corrections

Audit pruning correctly retains zero events when requested. Planning respects read-only requests, and enabled skill instructions are distinguished from untrusted tool content.

Historical upgrade

Update the CLI and the runtime images.

The 0.2.1 maintenance update preserved homes, profiles, settings, and running or stopped state without introducing a new state-format migration. Both CLI and runtime updates were needed for the fixes.

For installations still on the 0.2 line

These historical commands are not a downgrade path from 0.5. Existing 0.5 installations use state format 4 and require the current recovery guidance.

$ npm install -g qubicl-cli@0.2.1
$ qubicl upgrade --all

Refresh Open WebUI’s cached tool catalog after upgrading. Existing MCP and generic OpenAPI names and parameters remain compatible. Upgrading to the current release? Read the 0.5 migration guide.

Compatibility and limits

Keep the boundaries in view.

  • Office PDF previews require workstation. Input and output are limited to 20 MB, with a 30-second conversion deadline and at most two concurrent conversions. Fonts and document features can affect fidelity.
  • Content search is bounded by attempted files, bytes read, and storage. Continuation snapshots expire after 15 seconds; restart from offset zero after external file changes.
  • Chat-specific folders on one Open WebUI connection do not isolate users or files. Use separate computers and connection grants where isolation is required.
  • Published apps need relative assets and redirects or a configured proxy base path. App cookie sessions are unsupported. WebSockets use the isolated published preview route, not the native Open Terminal proxy.
  • PTYs, notebooks, and automatic per-chat computer provisioning remain outside this release. Its initial release evidence does not imply full cross-platform testing.
  • The local management dashboard was not included in 0.2.1. It arrived in the current 0.5 release.
